Diversity
The diversity of students in a classroom should be considered during the planning and implementation of a unit. Besides following students’ Individualized Education Plans (IEP), the following accommodations can be made to meet student diversities such as disabilities, second-language learners, differing learning styles and intelligences, limited technology access, and gifted learners.

Students with disabilities: To accommodate students with learning or physical disabilities, they will be partnered with a group of students that are on or above grade level and will be able to work cooperatively with them to complete the Power Point presentation and weather report video clip. These students are also able to access the KWHL chart online in Google Docs, and will be given a printed version to make additions as they research and learn.

Second-language learners: Students who are learning English as a second language will have access to resources with text in English and their native language to expose them to more vocabulary. They will also be given a list of important vocabulary terms and their meanings for the unit.

Different learning styles: Visual learners will be provided with videos for learning the concepts in each lesson. Auditory learners will have access to sound clips along with the videos. Kinesthetic learners will have the opportunity to work hands-on with the weather instruments they will study to gain a better understanding of how each works, as well as learning how to make different types of weather instruments.

Different intelligences: A variety of intelligences are addressed throughout the unit. Students will be given the opportunity to share what they know verbally and ask questions among peers and the teacher through the KWHL chart. Each student will work collaboratively and individually using self-direction, to apply critical thinking skills during research and contributions to the group’s presentations. To address specific intelligences such as musical intelligence, students can put their researched information about weather into a song using instrumental versions on You Tube to add to the group’s Power Point presentation.

Students without access to technology in the home: Students who do not have access to technology will be available to use the school computer labs before and after school if they choose to work outside of the classroom. Students will also be given ample time to complete their project during class time.

Gifted students: Gifted students who finish their work early will be able to create their own videos and audio clips to be included in their group Power Point presentation and weather report video. They could also create additional digital stories to share their new knowledge about weather.
